JPG to AI Converter — From a Blurry JPG to Clean Illustrator Vectors
The client sent their logo as a small JPG off WhatsApp, and you need it for a banner. Upload it here and get an .ai file where the logo has been redrawn as vector curves — crisp at any size, with every shape editable in Adobe Illustrator.
The tracer smooths over JPEG compression noise instead of faithfully tracing every speck, so the result is cleaner than the image you started with.

Better source = better vectors
Upscales your image before vectorization for sharper, cleaner results. Takes a few extra minutes.

Quick answer
How to convert a JPG to AI
Upload the JPG above, keep AI as the output, and open the settings (the pulsing gear). Choose Logo for flat logos or Detailed for fine artwork, and switch on AI upscaling if the image is small. Convert, then edit the paths in Illustrator.
Why a JPG needs tracing, not just converting
A JPG stores a fixed grid of pixels and throws away detail to keep the file small. No change of file extension can add back the sharpness that was never there. Tracing is different: it reads the shapes in the image and redraws them as mathematical curves, which have no resolution at all.
Compression noise cleaned up
JPEG artefacts around edges are merged into solid colour areas rather than traced as hundreds of tiny specks.
Small images upscaled first
Optional AI upscaling enlarges a low-resolution JPG before tracing, which gives noticeably smoother curves.
Scans and photos of artwork
A photographed logo or scanned drawing becomes usable vector art — crop it close and keep it straight for the best result.
Which mode for which JPG
| Your JPG | Mode | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A logo with 2–6 flat colours | Logo | Fewest shapes, cleanest file — easiest to recolour |
| A logo with thin lines, small text or gradients | Detailed | Keeps fine elements at the cost of more nodes |
| A cartoon, clipart or flat illustration | Clipart | Solid colour areas with clean edges |
| A pencil or ink sketch, signature or stamp | Black & white | Single-colour line art ready for cutting or engraving |
| A photograph | Photo | A stylised poster look — good for screen printing |
Working in CorelDRAW instead of Illustrator? The same tracer powers JPG to CDR. For SVG or EPS, use the image to vector converter.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. The JPG is traced into vector paths, so every colour area and outline becomes an object you can select and edit in Illustrator. It is not a JPG pasted inside an .ai file — that would still blur when enlarged.
Much less than you might expect. JPEG compression leaves faint blocks and speckles around edges, and the tracer merges those into clean colour areas instead of tracing every speck. For very small or heavily compressed files, turn on AI upscaling in the settings before converting.
Yes — those are two of the most common uses. Crop the image close to the artwork first and make sure it is reasonably straight and evenly lit. For pencil or ink sketches, use the black-and-white option to get clean single-colour line art.
A JPG has no transparency, so the background is a colour like everything else. Delete it in Illustrator with one click, or save the image as a PNG with a transparent background first and use PNG to AI.
No. Text in a JPG is pixels, so it is traced into outlined shapes. It prints identically but cannot be retyped. Retype it in Illustrator if you need live text.
No. The conversion runs on our servers in any browser. You only need Illustrator — or any program that opens .ai files, such as CorelDRAW or Affinity Designer — to edit the result.
Yes. 10 conversions a day at up to 150 MB per file, no account needed. Pro removes the daily limit and raises the cap to 500 MB.
