Why a PDF often won't open properly in CorelDRAW
CorelDRAW can import PDFs directly, but the result is frequently broken — missing elements, shifted text, or a document that opens completely blank. That is not your file being corrupt. PDF is a print format, and three things it does routinely confuse the importer.
Flattened transparency
Drop shadows, glows and blend modes get baked into stacks of overlapping clipped shapes on export. CorelDRAW re-interprets those clipping paths differently, which is why elements disappear or turn opaque.
Subset fonts
A PDF usually embeds only the characters actually used, not the whole typeface. If CorelDRAW cannot map that partial font, it substitutes one — and your spacing and line breaks move.
Nested clipping paths
Design tools wrap artwork in layers of masks. Deeply nested masks are the single most common cause of a PDF that imports as an empty page.
We rebuild the file structure before writing the CDR, which is why converting here often works when a straight File → Import in CorelDRAW does not.

Usually yes. If the PDF has real text with embedded fonts, it comes through as editable text objects. If the PDF was exported with "convert text to curves" or "outline text" — very common from Canva and from print-ready files — the letters arrive as vector shapes. They are still fully editable as paths, but you cannot retype them.
Pick the version you actually have installed. CorelDRAW cannot open a file saved in a newer version than itself, so choosing the newest option is the most common reason a converted file then refuses to open. If you are sending the file to a print shop, ask them — many still run X7 or X8.
Canva flattens transparency and subsets its fonts on export, which CorelDRAW's PDF importer interprets inconsistently. We normalise the file structure first, which is why a Canva PDF converted here usually opens correctly when a direct import does not.
