What you can do with this AI viewer
Check a logo before you pay for it
Freelancers and agencies deliver logos as .ai files. Confirm it is the right version, the right colours and the right layout before you sign off — without installing anything.
Preview supplier and client artwork
Print shops, sign makers and packaging suppliers receive .ai files every day from people who never think to send a PDF. Open them in the browser instead of asking for a re-send.
Full-resolution render, not a thumbnail
The file is rendered on our servers at print resolution, so you can zoom into small type, thin strokes and fine detail.
Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for
Works in any browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android. Your file is deleted automatically after 3 hours.
How to open an AI file online
Drop your .ai file above or click to browse — up to 150 MB.
Our servers turn it into a high-resolution image, usually in under 30 seconds.
Zoom, pan and download the JPG — or convert the file into the format you need.
What is an AI file?
An .ai file is the native document format of Adobe Illustrator, the vector design program used for logos, icons, illustrations, packaging and print layouts. Like CorelDRAW's CDR, it stores artwork as mathematical paths rather than pixels, so it can be scaled to any size without losing sharpness.
Illustrator is only sold as part of a monthly Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Most people who receive an .ai file — business owners, printers, developers, students — do not have one, and Windows, macOS and phones cannot open the format on their own.
Most AI files saved by modern versions of Illustrator also carry a PDF-compatible copy of the artwork inside them. That is what lets other programs — and this viewer — show the design without Illustrator itself.
Why your AI file will not open
An .ai file usually fails to open for one of these reasons. Each one has a different fix.
You do not have Adobe Illustrator
Windows Photos, Paint and phone galleries do not understand .ai at all. Upload the file above to see it, then convert it to PDF or PNG if you need to keep or forward it.
A PDF reader shows "saved without PDF content"
The designer turned off "Create PDF Compatible File" when saving. That message is all a PDF reader can display. Ask them to re-save with the option ticked, or to export a PDF.
It opens, but the colours look dull or wrong
Print artwork is usually set up in CMYK, which looks flatter on screen than RGB. The file is fine — what you see is what the printer will get.
Text looks different from what the designer showed you
Fonts the designer used are not on your computer, so they are swapped for a default. A rendered preview shows the text as it was saved.
You need to edit it, not just look at it
A viewer only shows the artwork. To change it without Illustrator, convert it to CDR for CorelDRAW, or to SVG for free editors such as Inkscape.
Use CorelDRAW instead of Illustrator? The AI to CDR converter turns the file into an editable CorelDRAW document.
Ways to open an AI file — compared
There is more than one way in. Which one is right depends on whether you only need to look at the file or also edit it.
